Blend Your Adsense With CSS

This is a nice simple tutorial. It is a guide to using css to customize the look of you google adsense. Later I will release a variety of examples for you to use on your own website. Customising the look of the google ads can be very good as it can make the ads blend into your site's design and cause it to look less cumbersome and gaudy.Using CSS With Adsense

When I first think of customising my ads I first need to work out what type of ads I am going to use. For m example I will be using the bann er ads which are 468px x 60px. I chose these as they are easy to fit into site designs and for different widths of screen. I will also be showing this tutorial through adobe photoshop. If you use a different image editting program it shouldn't be too difficult to see what I am doing at each stage.
Designing The Ad Background

Okay so this will be simple. Open up photoshop and select a page of width 468px and height 90px (greater than the height of the ads so we can can add gradients at top and bottom). When we start designing we must keep in mind one important thing - the background of the ads must be a solid colour. So with photoshop open create a new layer and fill the whole working area a background colour. For this example I am going to use #FEF1F9 as it blends in with this site but you can use any colour of your chose. The will be the background for the ads. Next is to create the gradient at the top. To do this open the marquee tool and chose fixed size of 468px wide and 15px high. Create a new layer and fill it with any colour as it will be getting changed. Change the layer properties for this layer as:
Fill Opacity: 0% Gradient Overlay: Overlay - 100%, Linear, 90 degress, From base background colour with opacity set to 0 to black set to 100%.

Blend your adsense color

Edit your Adsense ads to match the look of
your website.

Did you know that with just a few clicks
in your Google Adsense account you can
customize the look of your ads to match
that of your site and content?

Pretty cool huh?

Think about it, if it matches your content
and website, don't you think it will be
much easier to get visitors to click on
your ads?

You bet it will!

If a visitor reads your content, they are
going to be looking for "what to do next"
when they're done.

Give a consistent look and feel throughout
your site and they'll click your ads like
crazy!

Why?

Because the ads don't look like ads, they
look like links to more content!

Who is copying who

Read here Most porn surfers from Kota Baru and Kuantan

BY SALHAN K. AHMAD

PETALING JAYA: Internet surfers in Kota Baru and Kuantan topped the list of local pornographic website visitors, according to Google Trends.

The most searched entries are “bogel” (nudity), “gambar bogel” (nude pictures), “seks Melayu” (sex involving Malays) and “cerita seks” (sex stories).

Google Trends is a leading Internet application provider by online search engine Google.

A check by mStar Online, The Star’s Malay online portal, found that Internet users in Alor Star, Kota Kinabalu, Batu Pahat, Johor Baru and Petaling Jaya preferred the entry “bogel”.

Kota Baru surfers searched mostly for “sex” and “porn” while surfers in Batu Pahat, Petaling Jaya, Johor Baru, Klang and Shah Alam searched mostly for “Melayu bogel” (nude Malays).

“Gambar bogel” is a favourite among Internet users in Kuantan, Kota Baru, Alor Star, Kota Kinabalu, Batu Pahat, Johor Baru and Petaling Jaya.

“Seks Melayu” is also popular among those in Klang, Batu Pahat, Johor Baru, Petaling Jaya and Ipoh.

Universiti Malaya psychologist Assoc Prof Dr Jas Laile Suzana Jaafar viewed the development as a normal phenomenon, especially in Kelantan which practised conservative policies in sensitive matters such as sexuality.

“If a teenager was the one who searched for it, it is normal because of puberty and he has to learn about sexuality to understand the changes they experience.

“If teenagers ask their parents or peers, how much information can they get? In Kelantan, parents are not open to talking about sexuality with their children,” she said, adding that some parents tend to regard the subject as a taboo.

Dr Jas Laile also said some research studies found that searching for sex materials online could lead to addiction.

However, she pointed out that the data in Google Trends did not give a full picture because it did not show information such as the age group of the Internet users.

“We cannot make a general conclusion, because if one aspect in the survey was wrong everything would be wrong,” she said.

Google Trends, at its official website, said the data shown was not an accurate yardstick as it only analysed part of the entries in Google.

According to information and technology communications writer Oon Yeoh, most Internet users who searched for sex materials were new users.

He said they would explore cyberspace because it could give them endless information compared with other media.

Make Money Online thru Blog

With that out of the way, let’s get started:

1. Contextual Advertising

Surprise, surprise. Advertising is easily the most popular blog monetization tactic, mostly due to it being the easiest thing to implement. Advertising comes in many forms, and contextual advertising is the most popular due to Google Adsense and it’s general success with blogs and niche sites.

I’m going to assume everyone reading this is familiar with it, but I think it should be mentioned that too many bloggers assume that Adsense is the best solution for their blog. For some blogs and topics it works great, for others, not very well at all.

My advice is to not limit your blog to one ad network or just one form of advertising. Other contextual options include the Yahoo Publisher Network, Chitika, Clicksor, AdSonar, and others. It’s not easy to manually test all these though if you’re shuffling ad tags around and randomly allocating your impressions to them, using a ad network management tool like RMX Direct can help you manage, evaluate, and control your various ad networks.

2. Display Advertising

As I mentioned above, contextual networks aren’t always the best solution for blogs. In some cases there aren’t enough advertisers in niche topics, and in others the users just isn’t likely to click. In this case, you want to be working with ad networks that provide CPM display advertising. This means you get paid something for every ad viewed, opposed to only getting paid per click.

Just like with contextual networks, it’s important to use multiple display ad networks to get more variety from your ads, to not let any one network control your inventory, and to make sure you’re earning the most amount of money possible.4. Text Link Advertising

Another somewhat unobtrusive form of advertising is using services like Text Link Ads or Adbrite to sell text ads directly to companies. This is pretty low effort and often doesn’t take up too much space on a site, so it’s easy to implement and try out. It should be noted though that you need significant traffic for it to be a big source of income.

5. Affiliate Links

One of the older web monetization methods is still as good today as it’s always been. If you’ve got a blog in a specific area, there’s a very large chance that there are companies out there that sell products or services your users are interested in. You can earn some nice income recommending or linking to those products.

Amazon.com is probably the most common affiliate merchant used by bloggers, but I’d advise finding other unique merchants who may pay better and be more specific to your topic. Amazon is always there as an option, but you’re more likely to get more help from the merchant if you go with a smaller company.

Another nice thing about affiliate links is that they fit well with quality content. Reviewing products and services for your users is valuable content, and if you can make money off it as well it’s a great combination. A word of warning though that you shouldn’t change your reviews or be biased due to the fact you can make money off a referral.

While traffic also helps for affiliate links, it can sometimes be an easier way to generate income without high traffic levels like advertising requires. As an example I did a review of a web analytics application a couple of years ago, and this blog had very little traffic at that point. I referred two sales through that review though that still earn me $150 a month every month two years later. Read more here

Introduction to Open Source

Introduction

Open source doesn't just mean access to the source code. The distribution terms of open-source software must comply with the following criteria:
1. Free Redistribution

The license shall not restrict any party from selling or giving away the software as a component of an aggregate software distribution containing programs from several different sources. The license shall not require a royalty or other fee for such sale.
2. Source Code

The program must include source code, and must allow distribution in source code as well as compiled form. Where some form of a product is not distributed with source code, there must be a well-publicized means of obtaining the source code for no more than a reasonable reproduction cost preferably, downloading via the Internet without charge. The source code must be the preferred form in which a programmer would modify the program. Deliberately obfuscated source code is not allowed. Intermediate forms such as the output of a preprocessor or translator are not allowed.
3. Derived Works

The license must allow modifications and derived works, and must allow them to be distributed under the same terms as the license of the original software.
4. Integrity of The Author's Source Code

The license may restrict source-code from being distributed in modified form only if the license allows the distribution of "patch files" with the source code for the purpose of modifying the program at build time. The license must explicitly permit distribution of software built from modified source code. The license may require derived works to carry a different name or version number from the original software.
5. No Discrimination Against Persons or Groups

Read more here at Open Source Institute

The license must not discriminate against any person or group of persons. Open source software is computer software whose source code is available under a license (or arrangement such as the public domain) that permits users to study, change, and improve the software, and to redistribute it in modified or unmodified form. It is often developed in a public, collaborative manner. It is the most prominent example of open source development and often compared to user generated content.[1]

Les Copaque (entry 2)

In my previous entry I have written about the Les Copaque production. In this few months the team gain more attention than before. The name of the company itself sound great. It sounds like french word, but actually not. Les means "the" in the french language. In Malay language les copaque can be understood as "last kopak". It could be last chance, last money or last oppurtunity.

Let see what they have achieved. One of their achievement was the short film awards that they have win in last January.
The award give a signal that a 3d animation movie is now gaining his place in the heart of Malaysian people.

For more information about their latest project on geng:The Movie, read what they wrote in their own production blog.

The official company website can be reached here. Les Copaque produktion.

High Potential Niche

Are you planning to monetized your site using adsense or yahoo publisher or any advertising programm? ever heard about niche? dont know what niche is suitable for your site?

people nowadays are tired to read articles about niche. many articles just talk about already used, explored and repeated niche in the advertisement industry.

Niche like automotive (eg sport car, car industry, car review etc), health, how to, internet issues and others are too general and too common nowadays.

Finding HIGH potential keyword niches for your websites is essential to eliminate competition. If you just start to monetize your website, it will really hard to cope with others who is ready to spend big money to get listed in the search engine by using particular script, buy e-books, attending seminar etc etc.

As I wrote in the previous article, basically there are only three Golden Rules to achieve high rank in the search engine, thus atracting more visitors to your site.

1. Contents (keywords, articles, originality, etc etc)
2. Search engine Optimization
3. Niche

Many people talk about niche. But many of them dont know how to tackle an up to date or relevant niche. An up to date niche will contribute to a high potential CPM or CPC (refer here for more info about CPC and CPM.)

High potential niche depends on:
1. Current hot issue (global climate, gulf crisis, visit Malaysia 2007 etc)
2. Your target group of your site visitors (students, engineers, widow etc etc)
3. Continuous interesting issue (sex and health, how to etc)

So what and which niche suit your website and your ability? You must maintain the originality of your website as many as you can. Eventhough it is not prohibited to include a credited articles or materials, but be proffesional.

Tips for Malaysian Adsense freak: Why dont give a try to manipulate the visit malaysia 2007 campaign. Use all the sources and informations that you read, hear and smell from the medias and start build your monetize website!

Second and Third Adsense Cheque

Within 3 months since the first payment of my Adsense, my Adsense total earning is now moving faster than before. After joining the Adsense programm in July 2006, I manage to get my first 100USD within 4 months that is in November 06. Now per month I manage to get 40-50 USD, means that the cycle reduce.

I placed my Adsense code in two websites that have high potential niche in the net. (I will explain later) . The first website I use CMS script and the second one is runnning with free hosting ie. blogspot.com

What I can say the strategies and SEO technique are starting to show a good result.

So the equation is like this. If two websites with high potential niche can contribute at the moment averagely 45 USD per month, how about if I have another two? It could be that every month I can get extra income of 100 USD or more. Instead I just want to fill my free time and learn soemthing new.

  • Building website: 3 days
  • Gather informations: 4 days
  • Setup the site: 1 day
  • Place the Adsense code: less than 5 minutes!

So wait for my next entry on how to build a monetised website using the high potential niche
